These are 3 mould remediation courses available from The Restoration Academy UK Limited and its clients e.g., National Flood School and The UK Association of Mould Experts are run as one-day or two-day remediation courses.

Proper mould remediation has become more important recently due to the recent coroner’s report on the death of the two-year-old boy Awaab Ishak. Mould, as a human hazard, has therefore come into sharper focus.

However, mould (fungi) is a Health and Safety issue under COSHH Regulations 2002 and requires risk assessment in a workplace and safe work practices to prevent exposure to workers and occupants.

The one-day course

This course is designed for those workers who will be carrying out the work but work under the direction of others and do not make the big decisions concerning writing or designing the work process.

This course is potentially available both in-person or in an interactive on-line format.

The two-day course

This course covers all the materials in the one-day course. It contains more detail and places a higher emphasis on creating safe systems of work for those managing others. It is aimed at professional restorers, builders, decorators, loss adjusters, loss assessors, claims-handlers or anyone who has to deal with mould. It is a course set at a level for decision makers i.e., those who conduct the risk assessments and produce the method statements for a mould remediation project including determining PPE and RPE levels.

This course is potentially available both in-person or in an interactive on-line format.

The 4-day course

This is the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Technician (IICRC) 4-day Applied Microbial Remediation Technician (AMRT) course.

This is an examination and certification course. Certification is awarded by IICRC.

This course covers all the materials in the two-day course but is broader in nature as it covers Category 2 and Category 3 (sewage) events as well as mould.

While anyone may attend this course, the exam and certification from IICRC is only available to those who have a current, valid IICRC certification in WRT (Water damage Restoration Technician).

The IICRC AMRT course has its own headings on this site’s training pages.

This course is only available in-person at a suitable training facility as it has compulsory hands-on elements to satisfy the IICRC syllabus requirements for this certification class.

The course content covered is the same for all versions of the course. What differs is the level of detail which may be adjusted to address the specific interest of those attending . The course covers:
